- Do you have to be in the country a certain number of days before getting married in Costa Rica?
- When is the best time of year for a Costa Rica destination wedding?
- What are some popular wedding destinations in Costa Rica?
- Valid passports for both partners.
- Original or certified copies of birth certificates.
- Proof of marital status (single, divorced, widowed).
- Sworn statement of eligibility to marry.
- Two witnesses (can be family members or friends) present at the ceremony.
- Notarized Affidavit of Single Status for both partners.

Legal Wedding: Recognized by the government as a legally binding union, it requires fulfilling specific legal requirements and obtaining a marriage license. Symbolic Wedding: Non-legally binding ceremony conducted for symbolic purposes, doesn't involve legal paperwork or requirements.
While residency requirements are typically unnecessary, most hotels ask couples to arrive two (2) full business days for a Symbolic ceremony or three (3) full business days for a Civil (Legal) ceremony prior to the wedding date. Please note that arrival day, weekends, or national holidays do not count as business days. Additionally, weddings and events are not performed on Sundays and national holidays.
The dry season, from December to April, offers the best weather, with sunny days and minimal rainfall, making it ideal for outdoor ceremonies. The rainy season, from May to November, can still be a beautiful time for a wedding but may require more careful planning to avoid downpours.
Popular wedding destinations in Costa Rica include:
- Manuel Antonio: Known for its stunning beaches and lush rainforests, offers a romantic setting for beach weddings.
- Guanacaste: Features beautiful resorts and pristine beaches, perfect for luxurious destination weddings.
- Arenal Volcano: Offers a dramatic backdrop of the volcano and lush landscapes, ideal for adventurous couples seeking a unique wedding venue.
